How to Set Cross-Country Time Correctly in Wader
When logging your flight records in Wader, it's important to understand how cross-country time is calculated and how to set it accurately. Here's what you need to know.
Setting Cross-Country Time in Wader
Toggle Cross-Country ON When entering a flight, simply enable the Cross Country toggle. This automatically sets your cross-country time equal to your total block time, aligning with FAA standards.
Pre-fill Your Preferences To save time, you can set your Cross Country toggle to ON by default:
Navigate to More > Logbook Preferences.
Enable the cross-country setting for all future records.
Why Block Time and Not Airborne Time?
The distinction between block time and airborne time often causes confusion. According to FAA 14 CFR, the term flight time is defined as:
"Pilot time that commences when an aircraft moves under its own power for the purpose of flight and ends when the aircraft comes to rest after landing."
In the Wader app, this aligns with block time, which includes all time when the aircraft is in motion for the purpose of flight.
Block Time in Wader = FAA flight time.
Flight Time in Wader = Airborne flight time.
For FAA compliance, cross-country time should match block time, not just airborne time.
For further clarification, refer to the attached FAA documentation that outlines the requirements for logging cross-country time.
Adjustments for Other Regulatory Standards
If your local regulations require cross-country time to be calculated differently (e.g., based on airborne time), you can manually adjust it for specific flights using the Edit Times feature.
